Almost 70% of Arab children are more fluent in English than in Arabic. With over 200 nationalities in the GCC, English is often the language of choice in schools and at home. This has directly affected the abilities of Arab children to read and write in their native language. With children today being so attached to their mobile devices, spending an average of over 6 hours a day, Samsung saw an opportunity to use this time to improve their literacy in Arabic.

KalimaLock is the first smart device padlock that encourages children to learn Arabic, one unlock at a time. By simply activating the app and setting the difficulty level, this would replace the familiar lock-screen pattern on any Samsung device into an Arabic word.
